Need to De-Stress? Try these 12 Easy Things!

April is Stress Awareness Month, and let’s face it . . . we all have stress in our life. From unconventional to tried and true, today on The Lash Lounge Blog we are sharing 12 easy ways to help you de-stress.

1. Find a Creative Outlet: Whether it’s painting, dancing, cooking or sports related, you can throw all your emotions and stress into a creative outlet. You will stop thinking about what it is that’s stressing you out, by focusing on your activity. Just make sure it’s something you truly enjoy!

2. Take a Quick Quiet Time: Sometimes life gets so busy, we don’t think it’s possible to take a moment for ourselves. However, when you’re stressed to the max, taking a 10 minute (or more if your schedule allows) quiet time should be at the TOP of your list! Write in a journal, meditate, do breathing exercises, read an inspiring devotional, go for a quick walk or simply sit and enjoy some peace and quiet.

3. Take a Getaway: Sometimes a change of environment can be so refreshing to the mind, body and soul. It can be a simple staycation at your favorite local hotel or somewhere exotic and tranquil. Just pack a bag and go, you’ll be glad you did!

4. Give Green Tea a Try: Many people love green tea, but if you haven’t hopped on the bandwagon yet, give it a try to de-stress. Why, you ask? Along with a number of health benefits, green tea contains compounds that with antioxidants, can help to relieve stress. If you’re new to the green tea club, check out the variety of delicious green tea drinks Starbucks offers.

5. Buy a plant: Studies have shown that adding some greenery to your space can have a calming effect. Whether at home or on your desk at work, pick up a pretty, green plant next time you’re at the market.

6. Color: Have you heard about the trend of adults coloring to de-stress? Well it’s been a popular trend for a while now and been known to help people relax and get creative, which helps reduce stress. Give it a try and enjoy this blast from the past from when you were a kid. (Psst . . . Target carries some great adult coloring books!)

7. Call a Friend: Having a good friend to call can instantly make you feel less stressed. Sometimes just having someone to listen to you can make all the difference in the world. Don’t keep it bottled up – get things off your chest to de-stress! And, be sure to return the favor to your friends when they need a listening ear.

8. Turn up the Tunes:  Slowing the pulse, heart rate and lowering blood pressure can happen when listening to music. Whether light and calming or upbeat and happy, this is a great and easy way to reduce stress and enhance your mood.

9. Be Active: After a stressful day, often the last thing we feel like doing is exercising. But studies have shown that exercise and getting your body moving can instantly be a stress reliever. From cardio, lifting weights, yoga, Pilates or an active sport – get your body moving and your endorphins (your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters) will kick in!


10. Eat Potassium Rich Foods: Did you know that when you’re stressed, your body can lose potassium? It’s true! Eating foods loaded with potassium like bananas can help you feel less stressed.

11. Laugh, Laugh, Laugh: Like the saying goes “Laughter is the best medicine”  – and this is true! Getting a good laugh by watching a funny movie or hanging out with friends, has been proven to help you de-stress and feel rejuvenated.

12. Loosen Up: Taking a few minutes each day to stretch and loosen up our bodies is a great way to relieve tension. Our bodies get stiff when we feel stressed and stretching or doing anything to loosen up those limbs and muscles can bring relief and help in the stress department.
